La science dans le FSC, le FSC dans la science
Nous invitons les universitaires de différents domaines d'expertise à partager ce qu'ils ont identifié comme étant l'impact et la portée de FSC. Nous discuterons des forces et des faiblesses du système FSC telles qu'elles ont été identifiées par les chercheurs, ainsi que de leurs recommandations sur la manière dont FSC peut s'appuyer sur leurs résultats, et sur la façon dont FSC peut soutenir leur travail.
- Thème 1) Écouter les employés des entreprises certifiées FSC au Brésil : à travers des entretiens réalisés dans plus de 70 entreprises, les chercheurs ont identifié et analysé les perceptions des employés sur les impacts positifs et négatifs de la certification FSC (Nunes)
- Thème 2) FSC en Croatie : sur la base des données recueillies de 2015 à 2023, les chercheurs apportent la preuve que le rôle de FSC a évolué en passant d'un instrument de pression sur le marché à un outil de renforcement des pratiques durables et de positionnement sur le marché des produits haut de gamme (Klarić)
- Thème 3) : Deux groupes de chercheurs ont développé des approches différentes pour étudier les effets de FSC sur la biodiversité au niveau mondial. Ils fournissent des informations stratégiques pour étendre la certification de la gestion forestière
Dian Intarini, FSC Indigenous Foundation
Dian Intarini, rooted in Javanese culture, is the Indigenous Peoples Manager for Forestry and Certification at FSC-International. She co-founded Indonesia’s Dala Institute and is affiliated with Gadjah Mada University, University of Hohenheim, and University of Twente. Dian has consulted for CIFOR/ICRAF and FSC, conducting research in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Papua. Her expertise includes land tenure, community resource management, certification, Forest governance, food security, and rural development.
Laura Birbalaitė, Leiden University
My name is Laura Birbalaite, and I am a PhD Researcher at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs, Leiden University, the Netherlands. With our research team of four, we are carrying out a comparative, in-depth analysis of capacity, effectiveness and legitimacy of multistakeholder global governance, which the FSC is a part of. In my own individual dissertation on the FSC, I am investigating how and in what ways the principles of care are lived and reflected in its governance. Prior to academe, I was primarily involved in environmental and social grassroots movements and community organising.

Business consultant and startup mentor, focusing on innovation, business models, and internationalization. Over 15 years of executive professional experience.
Parag Kadam, Clemson University
Dr. Parag Kadam is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Clemson University, specializing in conservation governance, forest certification, and sustainability science. With over a decade of global experience, Parag integrates spatial modeling, econometrics, and stakeholder engagement to evaluate certification and conservation programs. His published research has advanced a deeper understanding of FSC’s global conservation outcomes. Parag has authored 33 peer-reviewed publications and has supported sustainability initiatives across 11 countries.
Sarah Anne Stevens, Leiden University
A PhD candidate at Leiden University, where she supports a comparative multistakeholder global governance project. Her personal work focuses on political, economic, and ecological changes occurring through the FSC's governance process. Sarah Anne formerly worked at Public Citizen, where she supported trade, human rights, and environmental advocacy. During her graduate studies, she volunteered as a researcher to support frontline communities whose human rights had been violated by development banks.
