Dear General Assembly attendees,
Welcome to the 9th Forest Stewardship Council General Assembly (GA). Whether this is your first time attending a GA or you are a seasoned participant, this is sure to be an exciting week of discussions and decisions.
As the world faces challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and inherent social inequities, forest stewardship is more important than ever. The 2022 FSC General Assembly will explore how FSC can contribute to healthy and resilient forests that create environmental, social and economic value and benefits. Ultimately, we want to be part of shaping solutions for resilient forests.
Throughout this week, members will have the opportunity to attend side events where updates from important projects, or new ideas for joint action, will be presented. These sessions are designed to be informative but will also enable engagement and discussion around strategically important issues such as climate change, Indigenous rights, responsible consumption and more.
Additionally, the GA is an important platform to discuss issues that are critical in terms of the future direction for FSC. Side event discussions will prepare the democratic voting process that will determine how these important topics will be handled going forward.
Whether you’re attending in-person or remotely, I expect that this GA will be just as dynamic as the previous one in Vancouver and the many sessions we have hosted in preparation of the GA. I am really looking forward to hearing and learning from our members and to sharing ideas and best practice as to how we can move forward regarding important issues and concerns.
Yours sincerely,
Kim Carstensen
