The General Assembly, FSC's principle decision-making platform, usually takes place every three years. Members from the economic, social and environmental chambers come together to vote on proposed motions and shape the future of our work and responsible forestry.

Unfortunately, the General Assembly, which was previously scheduled for October 2020 in Bali, Indonesia, had to be postponed due to the coronavirus crisis. After a deep analysis of the pandemic's situation worldwide, the FSC Board of Directors decided to hold the event in two parts: a virtual assembly in 2021 and an in-person assembly in 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The virtual assembly will take place in October 2021. It will include discussion and voting on motions as prioritized by the chambers, through chamber and cross-chamber meetings to discuss motions and high priority issues, business reports by the Board of Directors and Director General, and a report on the motions adopted in 2017 FSC General Assembly.

The in-person assembly will take place in 2022 in Bali, Indonesia if circumstances allow for the health and safety of participants. The event will include discussion and voting on the remaining motions and an engaging conference featuring inspiring speakers and breakout sessions. If it is not possible in 2022, it will be hosted at the earliest possible date.

"The decision to not have a physical GA in 2021 does not come lightly. The General Assembly is an incredibly important event for FSC and has always provided a special opportunity to learn, connect and collaborate, but in these unprecedented times, we must prioritize the health and safety of our community by adopting a virtual format," said FSC Director General Kim Carstensen.
