Innovation in NTFP and Ecosystem Services Certification for Smallholder
2BForest, a small enterprise in Portugal, manages a certification group of over 1,200 forest owners covering 45,000 hectares. More owners and sponsors are now joining ecosystem services certification and expanding into non-timber forest products (NTFPs) such as honey and cork. In Vietnam, the Quang Tri Smallholder Forest Certification Group (SFCG) Association showcases similar innovation. With 2,880 hectares of FSC-certified acacia plantations and 2,145 hectares of natural forest managed by ethnic minority communities, they contribute to emissions reduction and generate FSC-certified bamboo and rattan. These efforts are enabled by online platforms and direct coordination with forest owners. This session aims to showcase innovations led by management entities certifying NTFPs and ecosystem services in smallholder contexts. By sharing practical and scalable case studies from different regions, the session will explore how such models contribute to climate action, biodiversity conservation, and smallholder livelihoods—amplifying the global relevance of FSC.
